Starting your day with a smoothie is a great way to tackle tiredness.
Of course, it helps if you’re getting your required eight hours sleep, but sometimes that’s impossible — and sometimes, eight hours just doesn’t feel like enough.
It’s times like these that you need a tasty pick-me-up. Smoothies are the perfect energy boost — they’re delicious, and are full to the brim of nutrients that will help you get rid of that sluggish, sleepy feeling.

Feeling inspired (and tired)? Check out the amazing energy boosting smoothie recipes below.
Nutty Banana Smoothie
The star of this smoothie show is the banana. Bananas are perfect if you’re looking for an energy boost: as well as being a good source of fibre, they contain plenty of slow-burning carbohydrates to keep your energy levels topped up throughout the day.
We’ve also added a tablespoon of peanut butter and chia seeds to give this smoothie a nice nutty flavour, while providing you with plenty of healthy fat and protein to keep you going through any hectic schedule. Delicious!
Ingredients:
2 bananas
1 tbsp peanut butter (or a nut butter of your choice)
1 tbsp chia seeds (you can also try hemp)
2 pitted dates
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
Blend all ingredients until the mixture is smooth and creamy, and enjoy a nutty banana-y start to your day!
Berry Yoghurt Smoothie
Berries are the perfect ingredients for an energising smoothie. That’s because they are super foods: full to the brim with carbs, fibre and natural sugars that will boost your energy levels.
Berries are also rich in antioxidants, which can provide protection from oxidative stress — thought to contribute feelings of fatigue.
This smoothie recipe contains blueberries and raspberries, but if you want to shake it up, you can try adding blackberries and strawberries to the mix. Goji berries are also packed-full of energy, but they’ve got a very distinctive flavour, so try to avoid putting too many into your smoothie unless you want the whole thing to taste of goji!
Ingredients:
½ cup blueberries
½ cup raspberries
1 ripe banana
½ cup vanilla yoghurt (or soy yoghurt for a vegan smoothie)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 tbsp oats (optional)
Depending on the thickness you want for this smoothie, you can vary your quantities of yoghurt and non-dairy milk. Want more vanilla? Add a few drops of vanilla extract.
Spinach & Avo Smoothie
Stay energised with this awesome spinach and avocado smoothie. Avocados have recently gained a bit of a negative rep for their high-fat content, but what many people forget is that avocados contain healthy fat and carbs — perfect for keeping your energy levels topped up.
And do we even need to sell spinach to you? This leafy green is rich in iron and other super energising nutrients that will keep you pumped all day long! Fatigue is a common symptom of iron deficiency, so drinking this smoothie will directly help with tackling tiredness.
We’ve also thrown mango into the mix for some added sweetness and extra vitamin A and C. Yum.
Ingredients:
2 cup spinach
½ avocado
½ mango (or 1 small cup of frozen mango)
1 cup of water or unsweetened non-dairy milk to taste
1 tbsp lemon or lime juice
To add a twist to your spinach and avo smoothie, try adding a small piece of ginger or a handful of coriander. Zing!
Smoothies aren’t just delicious — they’re perfect for combatting tiredness and boosting your energy levels.
